Helping children and young people deal with feelings
of bereavement and loss
This is a course that can be adapted to
fit the time scale that you have. We currently have delivered
this as a whole day and half a day course but could plan a
two-hour twilight taster session.
We are two experienced trainers Deborah Price
and Clair Barnard who have been working and training in childcare
and playwork for many years. Our specialisms are equalities,
inclusion and emotional literacy.
At present we deliver this course as part
of the training programme for Brighton and Hove early years
and playwork staff and it has been very successful and is always
oversubscribed. We would
be happy to extend this to your organisation and discuss with
you how best to do this.
The course looks at our own experiences of grief and loss and how
we help children work though their feelings. We work sensitively
looking at the wider meaning of loss (loss of a pet, breakdown
of the family, moving home and/or school) and also the cultural
background and different death practices around the world. Information
can be found on dealing with issues associated with bereavement
on websites such as EverydayHealth and
many more. If you are looking for more in depth knowledge or training,
then this is the course for you.
Every participant will receive an extensive bereavement pack,
which includes book lists, local and national organisations and
useful articles.
This is training that we feel is essential in order to help
teachers, play leaders, nursery workers and child minders to
support children in a times of change and difficulty.
Our fees are £550 for a full days training in Brighton and Hove
and can be discussed for half day or taster sessions or for training
outside this area.
